A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD boy has died after being hit by a car driven by his father in the driveway of his home at Temora, in NSW’s Riverina region, with local police describing the incident as “absolutely gut-wrenching”.
The boy died at the scene after being struck by a ute at the Victoria Street home on Sunday afternoon.
The driver of the vehicle, the boy’s 35-year-old father, has undergone mandatory blood and urine testing as police continue their investigation.
Chief Inspector Robert Vergano said police are treating the incident as an “absolutely gut-wrenching and terrible tragedy”.
“It’s extremely tragic and it’s a tragic accident that’s taken place,” said Chief Inspector Vergano.

“It’s a tragic set of circumstances here in Temora where a seven-year-old boy has been run over by 35-year-old male, yeah the 35-year-old driver was the child’s father.”
Police conducted an investigation into to the circumstances leading up to the fatal accident.
It is anticipated that over the coming days that the boy’s father will be interviewed.
Police are obtaining statements from any witnesses that have any information.
A brief will be compiled and prepared for the coroner.
